Premios Comer 2025

Gaig, “el nen”

One of the most moving moments of the celebration (Comer La Vanguardia Awards 2025), organized by the Comer channel and held on the evening of the 13th October at Barcelona’s Hotel Arts, came just before Joan Roca announced the Mirada award. It was the presentation of the short film El nen, which pays tribute to Carles Gaig and to the childlike gaze he has preserved since growing up in the Horta neighborhood, where he still lives with his family.

The video, directed by Samuel Aranda and Cristina Jolonch, with Sebastien Perry and Danny Story in charge of the technical side, shows what life was like and what went through the mind of that boy who enjoyed accompanying his mother to the market at Plaça Eivissa, and who, when summer arrived, could not go on holiday like his school friends because there was always work to be done at the family inn; the boy who sensed that, due to his parents’ health problems, he would eventually have to take charge of the stoves.

It also portrays the adult Gaig, happy in the profession to which he continues to devote his life. The short film is a tribute to that vital attitude of those who know how to enjoy every moment of their lives, turn adversity around with optimism, and never lose the desire to keep dreaming.
